Flight

11'x14"
oil on panel
This past Saturday, I was honored to photograph a fantastic model, Sera Song. This is a quick 1 hour study I started at 9 pm on Sunday and finished at 10 pm. I'm excited to have almost 500 photos as future reference for both my painting and sculpture!

Bent In The Middle

9"x12"
oil
Chasing clouds on Sunday morning, I had planned a different painting resplendent with outbuildings and cropland with an emphasis on the sky. Reaching my spot, the clouds were gone and I realized it was too cold and windy from my vantage point so I opted for the protection of the barn. This turned out to be a warm and comfortable spot.

Late Fall

24"x36"
Oil on linen canvas
My latest studio painting! I already miss the fall, yet I'm excited to see spring again!

Window To The Fall

This house and outbuildings are in the middle of a field in west Round Rock, Texas, surrounded by high undergrowth and trees. The window is literally viewing the eventual demise of the structure on the left.

Narcissus

Perfect weather of 75 degrees on Sunday! I painted this around noon when the sun was just turning a corner. I really loved the light shining through the oaks and the tree perched precariously over the water as if to catch a glimpse.

Sumac Berries

9"x12"
oil on linen panel
I painted this in my backyard on Sunday. When it's chilly outside, it's nice to know I can duck inside for a hot tea, even if I didn't... I'd been meaning to paint my Sumac's for some time. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome of this little piece.

Ima Lee's Barn

9x12
oil on linen panel
On Sunday, I went back out to Mrs. Sorenson's farm to paint. After she arrived from church, she drove her car down to where I was painting and stepped out in her Sunday dress and a walking cane to see my work. It was chilly and she didn't wear a coat, so couldn't stay long, but she still had a lot to say and even chided me about my beard. She doesn't approve.
I've always been impressed by folks who have worked the land all their lives, and how easily they adapt to hard times. She has numerous health issues but plows ahead...no pun intended.

Here are two recent studio paintings. The one on the top I completed before Christmas. I painted the small one yesterday and today.

Wishing Window

I haven't been inspired to paint the human figure for quite some time. I actually started out as a figurative painter and showed my paintings in Arizona in the late 80's and early 90's. If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's to go with my instincts.
