TURNING
26" X 28"
oil on panel
I wanted to use some of the ink drawings I've been creating for this piece. The style is noticeable in the "branches".
Process
My process for the "Fragment" series paintings:
1. Cut out the shape on masonite with a hand held jigsaw.
2. Measure and saw the frame pieces.
3. Glue and nail frame to masonite, punch nails, and spackle.
4 Sand, gesso, sand, gesso.
5. Underpaint with thinned oil paint.
6. Let dry.
7. Layer strips of masking tape onto underpainting.
8. Overpaint with heavy impasto, paint mixed with cold wax and neo-megilp mediums.
9. Let dry.
10. Screw in eyelets and use wire for hanging.
11. Ship to prestigious gallery..?

Haybale
9" x 12"
oil on linen panel
I've been in the studio so much lately, I've neglected painting outside. I found this lovely field while taking some branches to recycle.
While I was painting, the booms of shotgun blasts got closer until I noticed trucks nearby and someone in camo holding a shotgun, with a hunting dog at his heels headed my way. I waved, he waved, and the dog sniffed around as we shook hands. Thankfully, he was shooting over the crops and just wanted to see what I was doing on his property. He even offered me a cold beer. I live to paint another day!

WIP
I've had this cutout and underpainting on my easel for weeks trying to come up with something. I even attached real branches, but nothing was working. I made some sketches I liked and last night went to work.
Over areas of the underpainting, I used masking tape which I peeled off after applying the thick paint to let some of the underpainting come through.
